What our Inspection capability can offer you

Electro Discharge Ltd operates a dedicated inspection department equipped with CNC Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs). Our CMMs are computer-controlled, allowing complex measurement routines to be programmed and executed automatically — delivering repeatable, high-accuracy dimensional verification that is fully traceable and documented. All inspection activity is carried out in-house on components we have machined, ensuring that quality control is an integral part of our process rather than an afterthought.

CNC CMM inspection gives our customers confidence that every critical dimension has been verified against the drawing before the part leaves our facility. The CMM probes the component at precisely defined points in three-dimensional space, comparing actual measured positions against nominal values from the customer drawing or CAD model. The result is objective, repeatable dimensional data — not subject to the variability of manual gauging — and a clear record of conformance for every part inspected.

First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) are available on request for new components and new production runs. A FAIR provides a comprehensive documented record of the first production part, demonstrating that the manufacturing process is capable of consistently producing a component that conforms to all drawing requirements. For our aerospace and defence customers operating under AS9100 Rev D, a FAIR can be a contractual requirement — and our inspection capability is set up to deliver this efficiently as part of the job flow.

Our inspection department supports all stages of the production process — from first-off verification at the start of a batch through to final inspection before despatch. For complex components requiring multiple EDM or laser operations, in-process inspection is used to verify critical features at intermediate stages, catching any deviation early before further work is carried out. This staged approach to inspection reduces scrap, shortens lead times and gives our customers a higher level of confidence in the finished product.

All inspection data is retained as part of our quality records in line with our AS9100 Rev D accredited quality management system. Customers requiring dimensional reports, certificates of conformity or full inspection packages as part of their delivery documentation are welcome to request these — and our team will ensure the paperwork is as accurate and complete as the components it supports.
