What our CAD/CAM capability can offer you
At Electro Discharge Ltd, all programming is handled entirely in-house by our experienced engineering team using the latest CAD/CAM software. Our system provides full 3D modelling capability, allowing us to work directly from customer-supplied data — whether that is a 3D model, a 2D drawing, or a combination of both — and translate it efficiently into a manufacturable CNC program without the delays and communication risks that come with subcontracting programming work.
The software enables us to create and manipulate 3D models of components, design and model bespoke fixtures and workholding solutions to hold parts accurately during machining, and generate optimised CNC programs for all of our EDM and laser processes. This end-to-end capability under one roof means that the engineer programming the job understands the machining process intimately — resulting in programs that are not just technically correct, but practically optimised for the machine, the material and the required outcome.
We accept customer data in IGES, DXF and STEP file formats. Where customer data is incomplete, ambiguous or requires interpretation, our team works directly with the customer to resolve queries before machining begins — eliminating the risk of scrapped parts and costly reruns. For repeat work, programs are stored and managed to ensure consistency across batches and over time.
In-house CAD/CAM programming is one of the key reasons our customers benefit from fast turnaround times. There is no waiting for an external bureau, no handover risk, and no loss of knowledge between quotation, programming and production. From the moment a job is received, our engineers are working on it — and that continuity shows in the quality and accuracy of the finished component.
